Swimmig Pool Glistening Water Effect

In this tutorial you will learn how to create a realistic looking swimming pool water ripple effect.
the swimming pool was created by following a tutorial from the following site
View Isometric Swimming Pool Tutorial

Example:

Step.1

you will need to download the graphics that go with this tutorial from Here.
unzip the graphice into your project folder and start swishmax 2, set your movies properties to
pool_grass.png to do this yo can click on isert | image and select pool_grass.png from your project folder you should now have something looking like fig.1 below.

fig.1

Step.2

Ok now you need to make a mask for the wate effect that you will be creating and using later. this will keep the water looking nice and neat and in place. using the bezier tool draw around the outside of the bottom tile in the bottom of the pool, name it water_mask when you have done it. see fig.2 below to see how i have done it.

fig.2 fig.2

Step.3

now you need to make an isometric tile mask to house the water effect again massk help to keep things nice and neat. you can right click copy and paste the isometric shape from below into your project and draw around it like you just have done the bottom of the pool, using the bezier tool.

fig.3fig.3

once you have drawn your own tile mask name it tile_mask and delete the image you pasted in from your movie.

Step.4

now you want to import the water_tile texture_blank.png into the project and place it over the top of the tile_mask shape, when you place your cursor near one of the corner anchor points you will notice it turns to a rotate tool, use this to rotate you water_tile_texture_blank.png to suit the tile_mask, see fig.4 below to see what i mean.

fig.4 fig.4

copy and paste in place tile_mask again and also copy and paste in place the water_tile_texture_blank.png and place that at the oposite end to the other. your outline panel should look like the one in fig.4a below just so you do not get confused at this point.

fig.4a fig.4a

if everything is ok at this point select the fist four objects from the outline panel and group together as a movie clip and name it water_tile and make sure the check box use bottom object as mask has a tick in it.
We are now going to animate the water_tile_texture_blank.png images, add a move action on the timeline over 90 frames to each of the images and use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move the shape into place finding a good pattern repeat, this may take a while until you are happy with the repeat, sometime using the guides help with things like this. see fig.4b below to see what i mean.

fig.4b fig.4b

once you have done it for one group it as a movie clip and name it water_ani then do the same for the other but animate it in the oposite direction, also group as a movie clip and name it water_ani
when you have done it you should have something looking like fig.4c below.

fig.4c fig.4c

ok before we move on move the water_tile movie clip up to the top left hand corner of the swimming pool, and check your outlin panel looks like the layout in fig.4d below.

fig.4d fig.4d

Step 5

You now need to duplicate the water_tile movie clip untill you have filled the bottom of the pool, do not wory about the tiles going outside the bottom of the pool as the water_mask shape with keep it nice and neet at the end. see fig.5 below.

fig.5 fig.5

your outlin panel at this point should now be looking like the one shown in fig.5a below.

fig.5a fig.5a

ok now you want to group together the two effect movie clips and the water_mask shape as a movie clip and name it water_ripple and make sure there is a tick in the use bottom object as mask check box, then press Ctrl+T to test what you have in player, you should have something looking like whats in fig.5b below.

fig.5b fig.5b

now you have the water tiles going length ways of your pool, using the techniques you have just learnt, you need to make some water tiles going width ways of the swimming pool, use the same process as you have just done but place your tiles width ways on this time,i have named the new tiles sets as effect2 just so you know which is whisch you want to end up with something looking like fig.5c below at this stage.

fig.5c fig.5c

Step.6

you have reached the final stage all we have to do is set some tint levels for the tile sets you have just created to make them look more like natural water. select both the effect movie clips and press Shift+F9 to get the Tint Panel up click on the Alpha drop down box and select custom using the arrows set the opacity to 28, set the opacity of the effect2 movie clips to 40 now press Ctrl+T to test what you have in your player and your final result should look like fig,6 below.
